Establishing a PMO and Project Management Capability in a Manufacturing Company

Establishing a PMO and Project Management Capability in a Manufacturing Company

About Project

In manufacturing organizations, project success depends not only on technical expertise but also on disciplined project governance and capable project teams. To strengthen project execution capability, we partnered with a manufacturing company to establish a Project Management Office (PMO) and deliver PMI-aligned project management training programs supported by hands-on practice labs.

We successfully designed and implemented a Project Management Office (PMO) and delivered a comprehensive project management capability-building program for a manufacturing company. The engagement targeted employees involved in project delivery, including new customer projects and new product development initiatives. The objective was to institutionalize project management discipline, align practices with PMI standards, and enable teams to apply project management principles through practical, real-life scenarios.

Our Approach

1

PMO Design & Setup

Established a Project Management Office to define project governance, standards, and coordination mechanisms across the organization.

2

PMI-Aligned Training Program Design

Designed and delivered project management training programs aligned with PMI standards and best practices.

3

Core Project Management Knowledge Areas

Covered key project management domains, including scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk management, ensuring a balanced and integrated perspective.

4

Classroom-Based Learning

Delivered structured classroom training sessions to build a solid theoretical foundation in project management principles.

5

Practice Lab & Case-Based Learning

Designed and facilitated hands-on practice labs based on a sample project, enabling participants to apply concepts in a controlled, real-life project environment.

6

Group-Based Project Simulations

Divided participants into teams and assigned project management tasks, reinforcing collaboration, decision-making, and execution discipline.

Strategy

Our strategy focused on combining governance design with capability building to ensure sustainable adoption of project management practices. Key strategic pillars included:

Standardization Through PMO

Establishing common project management standards, templates, and governance mechanisms.

PMI Alignment

Ensuring methodological consistency with globally recognized project management standards.

Learn-by-Doing Approach

Reinforcing classroom learning through structured practice labs and simulations.

Capability Enablement

Equipping project teams with practical tools and skills applicable to day-to-day project execution.

Sustainable Adoption

Embedding project management practices into organizational routines through PMO oversight.

Results & Impact

Successful establishment of a Project Management Office providing structure and governance for project execution.

Improved consistency and discipline in managing customer and product development projects.

Strengthened project management knowledge across time, cost, scope, quality, and risk dimensions.

Increased confidence and capability of project teams through hands-on practice labs.

Enhanced collaboration and execution effectiveness across cross-functional project teams.

Created a scalable foundation for ongoing project management capability development.

Through the combined implementation of a PMO and PMI-aligned training supported by practical case-based learning, the company significantly strengthened its project execution capability. By translating theory into practice and embedding structured governance, the organization improved project predictability, execution quality, and internal alignment-establishing a robust foundation for managing complex customer and product development projects in a manufacturing environment.
